I've been coming to MD Anderson for my chemo treatments which I now get Tuesdays and Wednesdays every week except the (4 th )week is off week. I have Lymphema therapy once a week and according to my pain specialist is a common reaction to mastectomy. Once he seen all medication list I was taking he was amazed at all the extra chemicals that I was putting in my body .He immediately told me to stop taking them and I was prescribe methadone only. I want to thank my sister in law Beatrice and Ram for surprising me with this fundraiser. As I reflect on God's word, remember that while my health is not good right now, always give thanks for: Having a loving husband, loving children , lots of loving friends and loving relatives. I was planning to be there at the fundraiser so that I could see my co- workers except Friday the 9th I had to have a blood transfusion. I was feeling fatigue I figure I better stay home. Selling 300 tickets you make $1700, plus all your donations. I'm very thankful to all my family and friends for the success of my fundraiser . Today Thursday 15th being on new prescription I've been feeling fatigue . My sister comes at 9am til 11 Monday thru Friday .Family been very <b>Supportive .</b> <div>Love Rachel</div>FFRPhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/01373759354652141032noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4912668840855483704.post-12263213273392082892014-05-02T11:26:00.000-05:002014-05-02T11:26:04.247-05:00<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">

Beginning with the right side mastectomy; 22 lymph nodes were removed and tested 19 were cancerous. On the left side mastectomy 21 lymph nodes were removed and all were found to be cancerous. My panel of doctors have suggested that I seek a second opinion with the MD Anderson Cancer Research Center. I am still having the pain in my left arm near the elbow. Dr. Ricardo has referred me to a pain management doctor who will be contacting me soon. I also have an appt with Dr. Shalan next Monday to receive a oncologist referral to begin treatments at MD Anderson. </div><div><br></div><div>Thank you all for your prayers throughout this and God Bless.</div><div><br></div><div>Rachel</div>FFRPhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/01373759354652141032noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4912668840855483704.post-50554134114049835552014-02-21T11:49:00.001-06:002014-02-21T12:17:15.214-06:00Surgery February 19, 2014Good Morning My Family and Friends,<div>I wanted to post an update regarding my surgery this past Wed. The morning began at 3:30 am as I had to be at the hospital at 5:30. I met with the anesthesiologist and entered the operating room at 6 am. The last thing I remember is being wheeled to the operating room before falling asleep. The Surgery was expected to last about 3.5 hrs but my surgeon encountered more than what was expected. The first half of surgery was aimed at removing my right breast but in the process she found the cancer had also spread to the lymph nodes in this breast as well. Dr. Ricardo was able to removed all cancerous lymph nodes and my right breast. In the previous months I had bad pains in my left breast and arm which had been increasing heavily in the recent weeks leading up to surgery. The second half of surgery was to focus on the left breast where the tumors were initialy found. Dr. Ricardo removed the affected lymph nodes and left breast but soon realized the cancer has attached itself to a nerve in my left armpit. My surgeon stated she injected my chest muscles with some form of medicine to relieve pain. I was released from the hospital yesterday evening and had a painless nights rest. The first priority is to begin a full recovery from surgery before beginning the next treatment of radiation. <br><div><br></div></div><div>Thank you all for your thoughts and prayers along this journey. </div><div><br></div><div>Love,</div><div>Rachel </div>FFRPhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/01373759354652141032noreply@blogger.com1tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4912668840855483704.post-80020295013575591642014-02-16T17:47:00.001-06:002014-02-17T01:35:11.509-06:00Surgery Update Feb.19,2014Sorry this is late ,but I've been in a lot of pain. I went to visit Surgeon on Feb.5 and she prescribe Tramadol for pain . The pain medicine will let me rest but the pain is getting worse. It's affecting my left <div>Armpit down to my wrist. Lymphedema comes when you have lymph node removed and causes arm to swell. I can feel all my dead cells on the armpit and l lymph nodes especially at night when I'm trying to lay down. Thank you again for all your prayers and support- you are what keeps my going!! Seven down and one to go. <b>I'm in the chemo finish line! </b>Jan 21st #8.....On yesterday treatment and Dr. visit he documents my side effects which I was put on antibiotic <div>Amox-Clav 875mg and eye drops Moxeza. I came down with allergys sneezing and my eyes were running with fluids 24/7. No temperature higher than 100.4 then I must go directly to emergency hospital in Houston Beechnut . I told him I was still in pain on my left breast it's still swollen and redness pains are coming from my underarm lymph nodes to where I can't reach with that hand. Discomfort where I can't even sleep on my left side otherwise I'm in pain. Dr looked at my breast and noticed no changed from last treatment so he recommend ASAP to schedule appt. Thursday with my breast surgeon. Dr said he would be communicating with her to see what they decide to do after she examine me. I will get back with you'll with results. I was trying to maintain my pain til the end of my 8 treatment. I wanted to be healed completed from those cancerous cells before I go into surgery.</div><div>Dr said you've been on antibiotic twice and that still hasn't helped your swelling on your breast so that's why I recommend you go to your surgeon now! Plus Dr. mention you know that your having a </div><div>Mastectomy I said yes a double mastectomy .This morning I'm feeling good just moving around baby steps so you won't be stiff . Going to change my diet this first 10 days not to eat roughage foods to prevent my mouth sores. New Year Day I'm eating pasta and black eyes peas and smoked pork neck bones my kids will be cooking. Please begin to pray for knowledge and wisdom for the doctors and for healing from the surgery. I will be back with answers and update blog when I get seen by breast surgeon.</div><div>Love, </div><div>Rachel</div>FFRPhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/01373759354652141032noreply@blogger.com2tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4912668840855483704.post-70668938937069428452013-12-11T23:15:00.001-06:002013-12-12T07:16:22.084-06:00Chemo Cycle #6 12/10/13We had great news on our visit to the Doctor. He explained this new medicine Taxotere is equivalent to Adriamycin they have to separate them into different cycles. We saw the images where it shrunk my left side of the supraclavicular lymph nodes and under my armpit axillary lymph nodes. It hasn't spread to other organs. Progress is Good. Doctor says Taxotere medicine will continue to shrink the tumor on my breast. I'm still having same symptoms on my breast. Shooting pains are less lighter. I suggested to doctor I wait to go see surgeon since I'm going to have double mastectomy. He understood my point of view. My red blood cells were low I will need to bring that count up by next week on my lab work only appt Dec. 18 th? Chemo #7 treatment is Dec 31 New Year's Eve and last Chemo # 8 treatment in Jan 21,2014... A Pet Scan will be scheduled then. I'm assuming by Feb I'll have surgery.<div>And I asked doctor if I was going to need Radiation therapy he said <b>Yes! </b>He explained whenever surgery is done that the possibilities of cancer returning will be at the <b>Stitching</b> site. <span style="font-family: 'Helvetica Neue Light', HelveticaNeue-Light, helvetica, arial, sans-serif;"> That's why you need Radiation. Made sense to me I agreed . Doctor wanted to know my side effects on my last treatment w/Taxotere . He made a change where nurse set infusion pump to go slower with all medicines into my port. It seemed to help my taste bud wasn't chili hot today and no mouth sores no complication swallowing. First week your always feeling fatigue and I'm on a 3 day steroid and it effects retaining fluids in your body. My feet swell and my knuckles feel stiff . So I need to stretch daily too keep blood circulating. I enjoyed seeing everyone at X-mas </span><span style="font-family: 'Helvetica Neue Light', HelveticaNeue-Light, helvetica, arial, sans-serif;">Party. I'm at the end of my first journey. When we're getting close to Beechnut exit that's when I start worrying about the side effects and surely I had one on first day at 2:30 am my stomach ache and I could feel nausea, kept me wake .<div>Dr.Shalan changed my prescription for nausea stronger tri-pack (Emend). I was supposed to take it yesterday after treatment except Walgreens was out. They were able to fill my prescription today Tuesday I'm feeling nausea eating lite soups, gingerale, yogurt, liguids. Today Tuesday, I had to go back in Dr.Shalan to get Nuelasta injection to boost my WBC to prevent infections. Side effects is aching in the bones and muscles. Hopefully I will not get mouth sores this round. I made sure I was eating ice during my treatment .Wed 16th I have Dr. Richardo appt @4pm my left breast the lymph modes are shrinking to where it's painful and swollen or the clips when the biospy were done they could be infected or my harmones glands going wacky with chemo meds. Oct 23rd I go for labs only at 11am.</div><div>It took 3 chemo treatment realizing they draw blood wk and must be tested from my port.</div><div>I always turn my face ,I don't like seeing the needle going into my port , that's when she fills a small bottle of blood and runs test. If my WBC are very low they will not give me chemo for the month I will be sent home. Nurse gave me thumbs up you passed and I asked her what are you talking about?</div><div>Always learning . Good news : I will only have one left and I m thankful for that. Chemo cycle #4 </div><div>Nov. 4th at 10am. Today for Lab wk you get results same day. My white blood cells were low that means I cannot be around sick people or places with big crowds. Need to wear protective mask the nurse handed one to me immediately before leaving office. That's probably why I'm still sick with mouth sores painful plus it's hard for you to eat and drink. I will need a shot to lift up my white blood cells on my next #3 treatment .My diet is soft food and drink with straw. I'm on antibiotic for that ? I'm doing my own researching today I went and purchased L-Glutamine powder which I'll put 1tsp a day in my bottle of water. Chemo and Radiiation can give you mouth Sores.
